Use the Japanese traditions everyday

Walking along the stone-paved path in Kagurazaka, you can truly feel the ambiance. As you pass by those willow trees, take a leisurely stroll down the charming narrow lane known as ‘Kagura Koji.’ There, you’ll discover a shop called YOULUCK, specializing in handmade Japanese pottery.

Step inside through the door and make your way up to the second floor, where you’ll be warmly greeted by Sato-san, the friendly shop owner. (Please check the article featuring the interview with her as well.)The moment you enter, your eyes will be captivated by the display of pottery pieces. “We encourage everyone to actively incorporate these Japanese traditions into their day-to-day lives, making every day a little happier,” said Sato-san.

Unique Japanese Pottery Crafted by Hand and Nature

To cater to diverse preferences and lifestyles, there is a wide array of colors, shapes, and textures available in plates, cups, and more. Sato-san carefully selects pottery created by artists, which she truly wants to use every day and finds beautiful. Each artist is dedicated to the entire process, from making the clay to crafting each piece by hand. Since the clay, wind, fire, and ash from the kiln are all natural elements, even if two dishes look alike, none will have the exact same expression.

Discover your favorite at the cozy store or online

There is an exhibition held with different themes each month, and you can check their schedule on the website or Instagram. While many people may have their meals with only white plates, finding your favorite piece would add a touch of color to your everyday meal.

I suggest visiting the shop to enjoy a conversation with Sato-san in the delightful aroma and cozy atmosphere. However, if you prefer, you can also make purchases online with international shipping available too. Furthermore, the shop owners are able to converse in English, ensuring a comfortable experience for those who may not be confident in speaking Japanese.
