Juttoku. is a specialty incense store in middle of Waseda and Kagurazaka. Since moving to Japan, many people might have had the chance to experience various traditional Japanese cultures, such as tea ceremonies, ikebana, and pottery. Incense also holds a significant place in Japanese history, adding delight to the everyday lives of Japanese people. We had the opportunity to interview Ms. Iguchi, the master of Juttoku., about the charm of her store and the allure of incense.

Natural fragrances with traditional craftsmanship

The incense at Juttoku. is crafted by skilled perfumers using only precious natural ingredients. Each incense is unique, made from natural materials that can subtly change in fragrance due to variations in humidity and temperature with the seasons. Crafting these scents requires delicate work that harnesses the differences in fragrance, showcasing the perfumer’s expertise. These incense are made on Awaji Island, considered the best place in Japan for incense making. The “West Wind” blowing from the Seto Inland Sea is ideal for drying the kneaded incense, nurturing the high-quality fragrance with its unique climate. Juttoku’s incense requires time and effort. Ms. Iguchi hopes that through this incense, people can reconnect with nature.

Taking the time to add an extra touch, for your precious moment

Ms. Iguchi says, “Despite the convenience, our busy daily lives often leave us feeling rushed. I hope that by taking the time to light incense, people can create a moment to reconnect with themselves.” Especially for those who have recently come to Japan, many may find themselves in a busy daily routine in an unfamiliar environment. Watching the gentle rise of smoke and listening to the voices of nature can be a unique way to relax, distinct from aromatherapy.

Incense sticks are used in stands or censers. Besides the fragrance, there is a variety of designs for censers, so finding a favorite design can also be part of the enjoyment.

Creating your own favorite scent, a special experience at Juttoku.

At Juttoku., you can experience making incense.
