In the vicinity of the renowned Suitengu Shrine, a place known for its prayers for childbirth you will find an interior shop called “surou.” This area is home, to a variety of stores that uphold tradition. As you approach the shop, with its glass front you can catch a glimpse of lights illuminating the surroundings. Embracing the concept of “a touch of luxury in life ” this shop offers a collection of high quality interior goods and unique items sourced from different parts of Japan.
For instance Goto Lighting, established back in 1895 is renowned for its lighting fixtures crafted with skill by local artisans. Another noteworthy store is Azumaya, where beautiful indigo blue tableware adorned with patterns is meticulously created. JICON stands out well – it’s a porcelain brand born out of a collaboration between a pottery workshop with 350 years of history and industrial crafts designer Masanori Oji. Furthermore, “nousaku” uses a 400-year-old casting technique from Takaoka to create items like silver sake vessels that shine brightly. These brands have managed to strike a balance, between honoring tradition and embracing innovation throughout their histories.
Why not infuse your life with the quality that Japan takes pride in? Consider incorporating these offerings into your space and experience the essence of Japanese craftsmanship firsthand.
