White Day in Japan has long been a day for men to return gifts received on Valentine’s Day. However, in recent years, the way people celebrate has changed. Instead of following tradition, more people now see White Day as a chance to treat themselves. Whether it’s enjoying luxurious sweets or upgrading home appliances, the focus has shifted to personal enjoyment rather than obligatory gift-giving.

Chapter 1: The Trend Change in 2025

White Day in Japan typically involves men returning gifts they received on Valentine’s Day. However, a recent survey reveals that over 60% of people are now against celebrating White Day. More people are choosing to treat themselves with gifts instead.

Chapter 2: The Survey

DataCom Corporation surveyed 450 men and women in their 20s and 30s about White Day. The results show that 66.2% of people don’t support celebrating White Day. When asked about their thoughts on both Valentine’s Day and White Day, most people said they see both as “days to enjoy for themselves.” The second most common answer was “a day to express feelings to a spouse or partner.” This shift may come from fewer men receiving gifts, leading to White Day becoming more about enjoying the day personally instead of giving a return gift.
