2. Yayoi Kusama Museum: Visionary Colors

This exhibition showcases representative series from Yayoi Kusama’s early period to the present, tracing the evolution of her distinctive color expressions throughout her artistic career. In her early work, such as the representative piece “Lingering Dream” created in 1949, dark yet dreamlike colors are evident. However, after her move to the United States in 1957, Kusama ventured into new artistic expressions, opting for austere color schemes in paintings that repeat patterns like monochrome nets and three-dimensional works that cover entire surfaces in a single color. This exhibition reveals a diverse range of color expressions that rapidly change, reflecting the light and shadow of Kusama’s inner world.
