Chapter 1: What Happened?

According to NHK, Tokyo’s population grew by over 79,000 people last year. This is because more people moved into the city than left. This number is about 10,000 higher than the year before.

Chapter 2: Population Trends in Tokyo

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications reported that last year, the total number of people moving to Tokyo, including foreigners, was 464,154. This was 7,321 more than the previous year. At the same time, the number of people leaving Tokyo dropped by 3,679, to 382,169. The Ministry explained that many young people are moving to Tokyo for school or work, which continues the trend of population growth in the capital. There is also a growing trend of people moving to other regions. After Tokyo, the areas with the highest number of people moving in were Kanagawa, Saitama, Osaka, Chiba, Fukuoka, and Yamanashi, with many young families also relocating.
