Here is our video guide. Enjoy the walk with belongingJAPAN.
Perhaps you’ve heard of Tokyo’s largest book town, Jinbocho. It is situated to the north of the Imperial Palace, or more precisely, north of Edo Castle in the old days. Consequently, in the past, many samurai residences were lined up in that area. During the Meiji era, numerous universities were established around this area. Students would sell the books they used, and new students would buy them, creating a recurring cycle. As a result, the area developed into a bustling used book district. Additionally, university professors contributed to the area’s growth by ensuring that bookstores stocked the specialized books they needed. Furthermore, when you visit here, you’ll find many traditional Japanese-style cafes called ‘kissaten,’ and longstanding ones have been a gathering place for numerous book enthusiasts to spend time together over the years.
When you are looking for a cozy cafe around here, you might encounter many lines with the traditional “kissaten” cafe. However, if you take an 8-minute stroll from Jinbocho station, you’ll come across DIXANS.
For lunch or dinner in this area, how about enjoying Japanese cuisine while viewing a Japanese garden?
If you are a cat lover, you cannot miss this bookstore. It is a special bookstore that specializes in cat books.
Secondly, to delve into Korean culture, CHEKCCORI is recommended. The bookstore specializes in Korean books with a wide range.
Finding English books in Japan is not very easy. While buying on Amazon is always an option if you have a specific title in mind, discovering a book by chance at the bookstore provides a great experience. If it happens to be a rare or old book specializing in a certain field, Amazon might not even be an option. In such cases, the destination should be KITAZAWA BOOKSTORE in Jinbocho.
