Geography

Mashiko Town is located in the southeastern part of Tochigi Prefecture, within Haga District. The Kokai River flows from north to south along the town’s western side, with flat plains on both banks making up most of the area. Situated where the Yamizo Mountains meet the Kanto Plain, the town lies at the foot of Mt. Amamaki, which has an elevation of 533.3 meters. Blessed with beautiful natural surroundings, the area features expansive farmland where fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, and grapes are cultivated.

How To Get Mashiko Town

Mashiko Town is easily accessible from various locations. Here are the main ways to get there:

By Bus

  • Direct buses operate from major cities like Tokyo (Akihabara Station) to Mashiko Town. The ride takes approximately 2.5 hours.
  • Local buses also run between Utsunomiya Station and Mashiko Town.

By Train

  • If using the Tohoku Shinkansen or Utsunomiya Line, get off at Utsunomiya Station. From the west exit bus stop, take the Mashiko-bound bus (Toya Bus), which takes about one hour to reach Mashiko.
  • Alternatively, from Oyama Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen or Utsunomiya Line, transfer to the Mito Line and get off at Shimodate Station. Then, switch to the Moka Railway and get off at Mashiko Station.

By Car

  • If traveling by car, Mashiko Town is about 30 minutes from the Sakuragawa-Chikusei Interchange on the Kita-Kanto Expressway or about 25 minutes from the Moka Interchange.

Climate

Mashiko Town experiences hot summers, with temperatures reaching up to 35°C, and cold winters, where the temperature can drop below freezing. In 2023, the average monthly temperatures were as follows:
