Hoshino Resort, a renowned luxury hotel group and recipient of The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2023, has unveiled an exciting development. Set to open its doors in spring 2026, HOSHINOYA Nara Prison will be a stunning addition to the portfolio. The Former Nara Prison, distinguished as one of Japan’s Important Cultural Properties, will undergo a renovation to transform into HOSHINOYA Nara Prison. HOSHINOYA is the most luxurious brand within the Hoshinoya resort brand.

Originally constructed in 1908 during the 41st year of the Meiji era, the former Nara Prison stands as the lone surviving national Important Cultural Property among the “Meiji Five Great Prisons,” built with the aim of modernizing correctional facilities. Its elegant red brick structure serves as a testament to the ambition of the Meiji era.

The forthcoming HOSHINOYA Nara Prison is envisioned to feature an array of 48 elegantly designed rooms, a selection of distinguished restaurants offering culinary delights, and an immersive museum experience. This new addition promises to combine the rich historical tapestry of the former prison with the unparalleled luxury and hospitality that define the Hoshino Resort experience. Stay tuned for further updates on this exceptional venture, set to redefine the standards of opulence in hospitality.
