Tokyo Taxi App: GO
The GO app combines two popular apps, ‘MOV’ and ‘JapanTaxi,’ and has been downloaded 15 million times. It features a simple design with a map showing your location when you open it. To request a taxi, you zoom in on the map, move the pin to your pickup location, and press ‘Ride Here.’ Then, you press ‘Call Taxi’ and wait for your ride. The GO app also offers ‘GO Pay,’ allowing you to link a credit card for cashless payments. You can tap the ‘GO Pay’ button on the taxi’s tablet and approve the payment on your phone.

Tokyo Taxi App: S.RIDE
S.Ride is a popular app with over 2 million downloads. Its unique stress-free user interface allows you to call a taxi with a simple ‘Sriding’ button. You can save time by registering your address as a favourite. Before getting into the taxi, you can check the travel route and fare, which is helpful when unsure about traffic conditions.
For scheduled rides, you can specify the date and time for dispatch, from 20 minutes later to 6 days in advance.
Another feature of S.Ride is the ‘Ride Program,’ where you earn ride points each time you book a taxi. With 10 points, you can participate in a lottery for a chance to win gifts like fare discounts and coupons. It’s a cost-effective program that offers monthly prizes.

Tokyo Taxi App: Uber
Uber Taxi, the global taxi service, is available in Japan. To book a ride, you simply enter your destination in the “Where to? field”. Confirm that your pick-up location and destination are entered correctly, and select “Uber Taxi” at the bottom of the screen. Then, tap “Confirm Uber Taxi.” It’s a simple process, and you can make reservations up to 90 days in advance. In addition, there is no need to install the Uber Taxi app since it is integrated with the Uber Eats app. Moreover, if you are a member of Uber One, you will receive benefits such as free delivery on Uber Eats or discounts when using Uber Taxi.

There’s another app called Fulcle, which works differently from the taxi booking apps we talked about earlier. Fulcle is not for booking taxis; it’s more like a casual matching system. When you open the app, if there’s an MK taxi within 500 meters, you can shake your smartphone and show the blinking screen to let the drivers know your location. It’s not a guaranteed system because it doesn’t book taxis for you, but you don’t need to register, and there’s no pick-up fee. This feature could be a nice addition to the other taxi apps we discussed.
