Overview

According to the Kyoto Shimbun, at around 3:30 a.m. on April 30, 2025, a passerby reported that “water is overflowing onto the road” near the intersection of Gojo-dori and Takakura Street in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City. A large volume of water surged from the road, causing flooding throughout the area.

Westbound lanes from the Sakai-cho intersection to the Takakura intersection on Gojo-dori have been closed, and two-way traffic is being implemented in the remaining lanes. As a result, heavy congestion has developed in both directions. Water also entered nearby homes, and as of 10:00 a.m. on April 30, the situation had not yet been resolved.
