Vegan Restaurant at Jiyugaoka, Tokyo: T’s Restaurant
previous post
Many people might be looking for vegan restaurants in Japan. If you’re one of them, have you ever visited T’s Restaurant? T’s Restaurant is a vegan specialty restaurant located within a 5-minute walk from Tokyo Jiyugaoka Station. It is run by Masako ShimoÂkawa, a pioneer of vegan cuisine in Japan, who offers delicious and reliable vegan food. If you are interested in her interview, please refer to this article.Â
Upon entering the cozy, rustic cabin-style interior that exudes the warmth of wood, you’re greeted by smiling staff. What’s first striking is the variety on the menu. While some restaurants offer a few vegetarian or vegan options, T’s Restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes, from creamy lasagna to vegan cheese curry, dumplings, and tantan noodles. They specialize in plant-based cuisine, using plenty of vegetables and ingredients such as soy meat and soy milk, while completely avoiding meat, seafood, eggs, and dairy. Their dessert selection includes parfaits, tarts, cakes, and other delicious treats that are free from eggs and dairy products.
At first, I tried the Soy Meat Youlinji (oil-splashed chicken), Soy Raisin Butter, and Tomato and Vegan Cheese Caprese for starters. Then, I had the Beyond Meat hamburg steak. The dishes were so delicious and flavorful that it was hard to believe they didn’t contain any animal products. Few places in Japan use Beyond Meat in their menus. However, Beyond Meat products are gaining attention as a new dietary choice due to their use of brown rice and legumes as protein sources, appealing to both animal welfare and environmental concerns. The homemade demi-glace sauce on the hamburg steak was rich and flavorful, and the portion size was satisfying. Lastly, I tried the chocolate parfait, which was made without dairy products, making it safe for those with dairy allergies. There are various reasons why some people cannot consume animal products. Since these dishes were so delicious you could forget they were vegan, everyone can sit at the table together to eat the same menu, whether you are vegan or not. This is a delightful aspect of dining at T’s Restaurant.
T’s Restaurant in Jiyugaoka has a sister restaurant called T’s Tantan, which offers vegan ramen options like tantan noodles. You can find them at locations such as Narita Airport and Tokyo Station. Many people use stations and airports for work and travel, where vegan menu options are often limited. It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to enjoy delicious vegan ramen in these places. Additionally, T’s offers vegan cup noodles made with non-fried noodles that are free from animal products, chemical seasonings, and alcohol.
Enjoy the fantastic vegan food at T’s!
